Abstract:
There is a limited number of co-dominant and highly variable markers for genome mapping and analysis of genetic variation in the genus Fragaria.
We have developed 14 new SSR markers from an enriched library of F. vesca 'Rügen'. The analysis of these markers with a set of 15 F.vesca accessions has identified 109 alleles at these loci.
The most polymorphic loci revealed 19 alleles and produced distinct fingerprints for 87% of the accessions.
Thirteen of these SSRs are being mapped in an F2 progeny of F. vesca 'Yellow Wonder' x F. vesca 'Pawtuckaway'.
