IRRIGATION SCHEDULING ON VINEYARDS (VIITH. REGION OF CHILE) BY USING THE TIME DOMAIN REFLECTOMETRY |

| Abstract:
Measurement of soil moisture content based on changes in dielectric constant has become a standard approach for irrigation scheduling in recent years. Time domain reflectometry (TDR), in particular, has gained rapid acceptance as a technique for measuring soil moisture. Thus, the Integrated agroclimatological and Irrigation Service (IAIS) used the TDR to provide farmers with the information required to control the turn-on and turn-off decisions in irrigation scheduling of commercial vineyards under drip irrigation. For that purpose, weekly soil moisture measurements were taken in the root zone from October 1999 to March 2000 in a commercial Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard (about 500 hectares) in Molina, VIIth Region of Chile. Results indicated that the winery company saved about 40 % of water application and increased winegrape quality. | |
