Abstract:
Two spirostane analogues of brassinosteroids (SABS) were tested in plants of mint and vetiver cultivated in Hoagland #1 recycling solution.
Roots of the two species were treated with ketonic-SABS or lactonic-SABS solution.
Lactonic-SABS increased production of leaves of mint (Labiatae), while vetiver (Gramineae) dry matter was affected by neither.
Essential oil quality was affected mostly by ketonic SABS. This study suggests that further experiments must be carried out in order to determine practical application of SABS.
