Abstract:
The desk top gardening concept offers the joy of gardening, the many pleasures and rewards of the horticultural arts and crafts, to millions of people living in apartments or condominiums without an external garden space.
A desk top garden can be created and tended by those confined to a wheel chair or with other physical disabilities.
It has important applications within horticultural therapy and can become an attractive feature in the foyer or waiting rooms of public buildings.
The concept is to miniaturize a traditional or theme garden with lawns, shrubs, shade trees, beds and garden furniture.
After careful consideration to design and location, the key ingredients are thoughtfully selected plant materials, a planting medium, and the application of light, water, nutrients and attentive management.
