A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN PEAT, PINE LEAF MOULD AND BARK COMPOST AS A SUBSTRATE FOR POTPLANTS |

| Abstract:
A wide variety of pot plants have been grown during the last five years using bark compost and other organic material as a substrate. Trials have been carried out at different research stations and nurseries. The compost consisted from bark coming as well from hardwood as from softwood. Composting these barks during 2 months and appropriate chemical and physical treatment resulted in an excellent substrate. The growth results of the different pot plants grown in the different bark composts were the same as these in normal substrates as peat and pine leaf mould. From these trials the conclusion can be drawn that bark compost of hardwood bark and softwood can be used as a substitute for the normal substrates for most pot plants. | |
