INFLUENCE OF LOWERING THE NIGHTTEMPERATURE ON THE PRODUCTION AND QUALITY OF 'BACCARA'-ROSES |

| Abstract:
In 1975 the total glass area planted with roses in the Netherlands was 650 ha. The production costs were ƒ 40,--/m2, while ± 22% of these costs consisted of energycosts (Groenewegen, 1976). In lowering the setpoint for heating in the period December until April 6–7% fuel saving is possible for each degree the setpoint is lowered (Breuer, 1976). A danger in lowering the nighttemperature is however, that the production will be delayed, and shift from the first to the second quarter of the year. To study the influence of different nighttemperatures on the production of 'Baccara' roses, the last three winters, 1973–1974, 1974–1975 and 1975–1976, trials on this subject have been carried out on a semi-practical scale. | |
