ISHS Acta Horticulturae 64: Symposium on Production of Potted Plants and Cut Flowers

THE USE OF PHOSPHORUS IN LIQUID FERTILISERS

Author:   A.C. Bunt
Abstract:
Problems associated with the addition of phosphorus to liquid feeds made with alkaline irrigation water have been examined. The formation of small amounts of precipitate, which sometimes occurred shortly after the stock solutions were diluted, was reduced or eliminated by the choice of the sources of N, P, and K used in the feeds and by the use of EDTA.

No significant reduction in the amount of phosphorus in solution occurred for the first five days after dilution.

Polyammonium phosphates were not found to be a satisfactory source of phosphorus in liquid feeds because of the very heavy formation of precipitates.
