Abstract:
A Chinese greenhouse with unsymmetrical and multi-span structure (patent No. ZL 00 2 02521.3) is one kind of greenhouse structure designed according to the inland climate in Northern China. There is a larger and unsymmetrical transparent roof with the proper angle for light entering. The different height of roof ridges in multi-span structure reduces the shading from south to north. There are also facilities for a screen system, which may reduce heat emission and heating cost. The brick back wall (north wall) can reduce radiative heat from the greenhouse to outside during night in addition to absorb and store heat during the day. Compared with traditional lean-to Chinese greenhouse, this new designed greenhouse has better light and temperature condition, is 6-10 times larger, and can save farmland 40%, which is important for modern China with too much population and too few farmlands. This kind of greenhouse is mainly designed for a family management in northern China.
