Abstract:
A modified sine function was tested as a tool to analyse periodic vegetative growth in Ilex.
Data were collected from plants grown under different climate conditions and the number of unfolded leaves was counted continuously.
The tested function was fitted both to the mean values from the different treatments and to data from individual plants since the oscillations within a treatment were unsynchronised.
For all treatments a good fit with R2-values between 0.9 and 0.99 was achieved.
The trial indicates that the function may be used to determine how the amplitude and the frequency of the oscillations are affected by different climate conditions.
