RESTRICTIONS ON THE EXOGENOUS CONTROL OF FLOWERING IN CITRUS

Authors:   A. Martínez-Fuentes, C. Mesejo, M. Juan, V. Almela, M. Agustí

Abstract:
In Citrus, flowering can be partially inhibited or promoted by applying gibberellic acid or paclobutrazol, respectively, during the rest period. However, under extreme crop load conditions, both heavy and light crop load, these treatments fail. The ratio of endogenous promoters to inhibitors has been accepted as being responsible for flowering, however, there is evidence suggesting that the inhibitors and their metabolism are the sole factors controlling flowering in Citrus.
