BREEDING OF FLORICULTURAL CROPS IN CANADA |

| Abstract:
Some breeding and genetic studies in floricultural crops are done at government research stations and at the University of Guelph. Perhaps the most outstanding work in ornamentals has been on woody species, particularly roses that can withstand the rigors of a Canadian winter. Hardy roses have been developed at the Agriculture Canada research stations at Ottawa and Morden, Manitoba. Mutation breeding of chrysanthemums, roses and begonias has been done at Ottawa and chrysanthemums and begonias at the University of Guelph where geranium breeding and associated genetic and cytological studies are also in progress. | |
