TOWARD A GLOBAL INITIATIVE FOR POST-HARVEST DEVELOPMENT

Authors:   R.S. Rolle, F. Mazaud
Keywords:   PhAction, GFAR, GIPh, FAO
Abstract:
The Agricultural and Food Engineering Technologies Service of FAO, in collaboration with the Global Forum for Agricultural Research (GFAR) and the Global Post-Harvest Forum (PhAction) recently embarked upon the development of a new global post-harvest initiative geared toward addressing the challenges faced by the sector in developing countries. This new global post-harvest initiative will seek to promote efficiency as well as improvements in organization and management within the post-harvest sector, by addressing technical, institutional, infrastructural, economic, and social issues. It is being implemented in three phases, the first of which included the conduct of five regional workshops involving the participation of 197 experts originating from 67 countries across the globe. The second phase will include the endorsement of a plan of action for post-harvest development during an International Technical Consultation, while the third phase will include implementation and monitoring of this initiative.
