Abstract:
Jilin Province is located in the central part of northeast China, where the yearly average temperature ranges from 2° to 6°, and it may drop to –42°C in the winter. In Jilin Province, there are large collections of hardy fruit tree germplasm. Studies on collection, preservation, characterization and utilization of germplasm resources of hardy fruit trees have been carried out in the Pomology Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Jinlin Province for 50 years. Thirteen families, 26 genera, 2 subgenera, 63 species, seven varieties and one forma of fruit trees were identified, and the National Fruit Tree Germplasm Center (Gongzhuling Hardy Fruit Nursery) was established. Important traits, ecological distribution and utilization of germplasm resources of hardy fruit trees are presented in this paper. Based on investigation of problems in the utilization and studies of germplasm resources of hardy fruit trees in Jilin Province of China, several suggestions will be presented.
