ISHS Acta Horticulturae 620: XXVI International Horticultural Congress: Asian Plants with Unique Horticultural Potential: Genetic Resources, Cultural Practices, and Utilization

FOREWORD AND PREFACE

Authors:   J-M. Lee, D. Zhang, ISHS Board of Directors
Abstract:
FOREWORD
The symposium was designed to promote an interest of Asian horticultural science and technology in the activities of ISHS and to create opportunities for mutual understanding between Asian horticulturists and those of the West. Horticulture is undergoing a renaissance in many Asian countries coincident with the increase in standard of living achieved in recent years. More than 60% of the world population resides in Asia and while many of the world’s most important crops are native to Asia, there are many others that could be grown in the West. Furthermore, Asian horticulturists are now at the vanguard of the horticultural progress and achievements. We consider this symposium held during the 26th International Horticultural Congress in Toronto, Canada, an opportunity to exchange ideas and promote horticultural cooperation as well as to promote interest in the 27th Congress which will be held in Seoul, Korea in August 2006.

Co-conveners: Jung-Myung Lee and Donglin Zhang
