| Abstract:
Separation of Taxus and allied genera of Taxaceae as the order Taxales seems unjustified. The authors summarise a theory explaining the evolution of the ovulate structure including a primary and secondary shoot, and believe that this helps to explain many of the unusual morphological features found in Taxus. Other features such as pollination drop, pollination mechanism and non-saccate pollen are similar to their analogues in Cupressaceae and the authors consider Taxus to be a member of Coniferales. | |
