ISHS Acta Horticulturae 613: VIII International Symposium on the Processing Tomato

EFFECTS OF MUD LITTER ON PROCESSING TOMATO YIELD AND FRUIT SIZE

Authors:   M. Arbaoui, M. Hamza, M. Benkhelifa, M. Belkhodja, P. Bussières
Keywords:   Organic matter, Rio Grande cultivar, sandy soil, semi-arid region.
Abstract:
In the view to study the possibility of using the mud litter in the sandy soils of the Mostaganem region, processing tomato was grown after supply of mud litter or of bovine manure or without organic amendment. The yield and fruit size were highest with mud litter supply and they were lowest in the control without organic amendment. The mud litter seems to be an organic amendment acceptable. However, the causes of these differences were not precisely identified. Additional research is necessary, in particular to verify by detailed analysis that the organic sources do not contain harmful toxic elements.
