Keywords:   kiwifruit, breeding, cultivar
Abstract:
‘Qinxiang’ is a new cultivar of Actinidia deliciosa selected from the wild. Twenty years of continuous study has shown that the cultivar has the characteristics of vigorous growth, early fruiting, large fruit size, good integrated characteristics, genetic stability, delicious flavour and fine quality of fresh fruit. Harvested in October, ‘Qinxiang’ is a superior cultivar for the fresh fruit market. Because of its marketable value, ‘Qinxiang’ has been chosen as a commercial cultivar by the Authorized Committee of Crop Cultivar of Hunan Province. The cultivation of ‘Qinxiang’ requires high fertilizer and water conditions with a pergola support system. ‘Xiangfeng 83-11’ has been selected as a suitable male pollinizer for ‘Qinxiang’ and the recommended female to male ratio is 6-8:1.
