Abstract:
This study was conducted directing major attention to the fact that some of the ceramics produced from Quartz Porphyry have electrical functions such as electrical insulation, dielectric and piezoelectric properties.
Production of functional water was attempted by use of the electrochemical energy of the ceramics and Quartz Porphyry. In this experiment, ground water and Dhaka tap water from Bangladesh as well as another sample from Kochi tap water of Japan were used in various treatment systems.
Results showed that the ceramics treated Kochi tap water enhanced the root growth vigour of Komatsuna seedlings (Brassica campestris var. perviridis). The ground water of Bangladesh with all the treatments did not show any significant differences, Dhaka tap water increased the root length.
These results might be due to the absence of Sodium (Na+) in both Bangladesh water and presence of Sodium (Na+), Magnesium (Mg2+) in Kochi tap water of Japan.
No differences were found among cations and anions.
Kochi tap water treated with ceramics changed the values of pH, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and surface tension (ST) to an optimum state (pH 7.2-7.6, ORP 200-280 mV and surface tension 68-72 dyn/cm). These results may increase the root growth vigour in Komatsuna seedlings.
Results suggest that granular ceramics could be used as a water treatment system for controlling the growth of Komatsuna seedlings.
