Abstract:
Peach breeding in Brazil was started in 1950 by Orlando Rigitano, in the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, São Paulo.
The foundation clones of this program were cultivars introduced from Florida, such as ‘Jewel’, ‘Suber’, ‘Hall’s Yellow’, ‘Angel’, and seedlings introduced by the Portuguese, since the XVI century.
