Abstract:
Production of a Plasmopara viticola standardized inoculum is helpfull for screening resistance against downy mildew amoung large populations of seedlings obtained from crosses between resistant and susceptible parents.
The sporangium production was improved by investigating the effect of various factors on the pathogen development.
To produce a high yield of sporangia, at least 6-leaf-old seedlings are required and the youngest leaves have to be inoculated with an inoculum highly concentrated.
A dark period of 24 hours during the infection stage increases the sporangium production.
