Abstract:
With some exceptions, the aim of clone selection these days in not to increase the yield, or maybe to maximise it any more, but to meet the different production and wine-growing expectations, adapted to the habitat.
FVM Szőlészeti és Borászati Kutatóintézete, Eger considers its important task to make appropriate clones of the most important species of the wine-region available for wine-growers.
By applying the “three-tier” selection method, the institute started the clone-selection of Chardonnay, Kékoportó, Kékfrankos, and Blauburger grape types in 1990. At present, there is a special clone designate from each species involved in the clone-selection, from which virus-free propagation material will be available soon.
