Abstract:
This paper reviews pests of Proteaceae, with special emphasis on insect borers that attack Proteaceae.
Borers are among the most damaging pests of Proteaceae in South Africa, and it was previously proposed that Proteaceae grown in other countries would be unlikely to accrue borer pests, owing to the sub-optimal status of Proteaceae as food plants for these insects.
The results of this review support this suggestion in most cases, with the exception of Portugal, where a Lepidoptera borer has recently been shown to be problematic.
In other cases, borers are not considered to be of major economic importance.
