| Abstract:
More than 100 machines harvested about 1600 ha of caneberries in Oregon in 1975. A single machine can harvest several types of berries because of different berry maturities. Economic units at present are about 20 ha for black raspberries, 12–15 ha for blackberries, 10 ha for red raspberries. The machine operator is one of the most important controllable variables in obtaining the best quality of harvested fruit. Harvest costs are equal to or less than hand harvest and the quality of harvested fruit can equal or surpass hand harvested at times. New cultivars with firm, brightly colored fruit are needed. | |
