Abstract:
Pear scab is a serious disease: there is no commercial variety completly resistant to this disease.
The biotype diversity of Venturia pirina, the absence of major resistant genes and the resistance variability prevent a good definition of resistance symptoms.
In this work sixteen cultivars were inoculated with local inoculum of V. Pirina. The symptoms obtained were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy.
Four groups of symptoms are described: necrotic reaction, strong resistance with reduced conidiogenesis, weak resistance with strong conidiogenesis, and susceptibility.
Among the varieties, some are oustanding in their high level of resistance.
