ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY PEST-CONTROL STRATEGIES IN PEAR: STATE OF THE ART AND PROSPECTS

Author:   E. Pasqualini
Keywords:   Cydia pomonella, Cydia molesta, leafroller, Cacopsylla pyri, pear
Abstract:
This brief survey describes a number of main studies on control techniques, many of which are now being applied, carried out on main species of insect pests in large fruit orchards in Emilia-Romagna. The purpose of these studies is to reduce the use of traditional synthetic chemicals as much as possible. Reference will also be made to a number of studies carried out to improve and simplify some currently adopted economic thresholds. While these do not immediately affect control techniques, they become essential at the time such treatments are selected, and are thus important for their rationalisation. Biological and behavioural data will be given for each species for which innovative technologies are being applied or studied to increase respect for the environment, to better characterise the conditions under which such technologies are applied or tested.
