Abstract:
Sensitivity to cytokinins (BAP and zeatin) was investigated on microcuttings of standard pear cultivars Abbé Fétel, Conference and Williams, and on three compact mutants, obtained from each of these cultivars by mutagenesis.
All the tested genotypes presented the highest proliferation rate with 8.8 µM BAP. Differences in proliferation rate between standard and compact clones were consistently recorded when cytokinins were not added to the medium.
With 22.2 µM BAP, some evidence of higher tolerance to cytokinins was recorded for both the ‘Abbé Fétel’ and ‘Williams’ compact clones.
However, at this high concentration proliferation was dependent on both genotype and shoot orientation.
