Abstract:
To study the role of JPRXYL gene during fruit ripening of Pyrus species, the expression of JPRXYL was analyzed, using ripening fruits of several pear cultivars: Bartlett, La France (P. communis); Yali, Cili, Hongli (P. bretschneideri); Nijisseiki, Chojuro, Kikusui (P. pyrifolia). The expression of JPRXYL was up-regulated during fruit ripening in all the cultivars used.
This indicated that the JPRXYL gene is associated with common ripening processes in fruits of Pyrus species.
Moreover, using 1-methylcyclopropene (MCP), an inhibitor of ethylene action, JPRXYL gene was classified as dependent or independent of ethylene action.
The expression of JPRXYL was not affected by the MCP treatment.
This suggests that JPRXYL gene is not subject to ethylene control during fruit ripening.
