Authors:   A. Bergamini, L. Giongo, M. Fontanari
Keywords:   scab resistance, powdery mildew, apple proliferation
Abstract:
The breeding program of the Trento Section of the Experimental Institute of Fruitculture focuses on the production of apples resistant to apple scab incited by Venturia inaequalis (Cke.) and having a wide range of quality traits. The research started in 1974 and the effort that continues today is based on a backcross program in order to combine different sources of scab resistance with other commercially-accepted traits. Seven varieties have been released and all of them carry the Vf gene from M. floribunda 821 and a wide range of advanced selections containing resistance to other diseases have been identified.
