| Abstract:
Among different grape cultivars grown in India, ‘Perlette’ occupies a large area especially in the northern belt. However, poor berry quality at the time of harvest, uneven ripening, inability of the growers to delay harvest because of monsoon rains and non judicious application of fertiliser to improve yields are some of the problems that make ‘Perlette’ cultivation less remunerative. An experiment was, therefore, conducted to ascertain the impact of foliar application of certain macro and micro-nutrients on fruit yield and quality of grape cv Perlette. Foliar sprays, in general, improved fruit yield. Yields were exceptionally higher in response to foliar application of magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), and boron (B) compared to other treatments. Improved yield in response to B and Mg was related to an increase in the berry weight, while in case of Fe, it was related to an increase in the number of berries per bunch. Number of fruit bunches were maximum for Mg, while for all the other treatments the effect was insignificant. There were no shot berries observed in plants sprayed with nutrients. The fruit quality, determined in terms of Total Soluble Solids TSS, acidity, juice and tannin content of berries, was also, in general, better for nutrient sprayed than control vines. Results indicate the possibility of using B, Fe, urea and Mg sprays for improving the fruit yield and quality of ‘Perlette’ grape. | |
