Abstract:
The wide range of ecosystems resulting from drastic changes in altitude in the subtropics makes it difficult to evaluate and recommend new peach cultivars in Central Mexico.
A regional network to increase, conserve and use genetic diversity, was implemented in the subtropical regions with less than 600 hours of chilling.
The project was based on the expertise and support of small fruit growers and resulted in the distribution of genetic diversity at representative sites, reduced evaluation costs and improved the extension process for the recommendation of new varieties.
