Abstract:
Twelve female pistachio cultivars were grafted on the rootstock 'Tsikoudia' and planted at the experimental collection of V.A.R.S., with enough male cultivars, in 1990. Among these cultivars, 'Aegina', 'Pontikis', 'Mateur' and 'Red Aleppo' were the earliest to bloom, while 'Sfax', 'Bronte', 'Cerasola', 'Ajamy' and 'Bianca' flowered about 2-5 days later and the other three cultivars, 'Kerman', 'Muntaz' and 'Cappuccia', were the latest to bloom, about 6-7 days later. 'Sfax' showed the shortest juvenile period, while 'Cappuccia' and 'Bianca' presented the longest. 'Kerman' and 'Muntaz' gave the biggest nuts while 'Sfax' gave the smallest.
Until the year 2000, 'Sfax', 'Pontikis', 'Aegina', 'Muntaz', 'Kerman' and 'Mateur' were more productive, while 'Cappuccia' and 'Bianca' presented the lowest production. 'Ajamy', 'Pontikis', 'Aegina', 'Mateur', 'Red Aleppo', 'Sfax', 'Bronte' and 'Muntaz' presented the best kernel/shell ratio, while 'Kerman' and 'Muntaz' had the biggest kernel weight.
