Abstract:
The effect of urea sprays before pollination on flower and pollen was studied in relation to the application of these sprays at blooming time to increase frost hardiness in almond (Prunus amygdalus Batsch). Sprays on pollen showed no effect on pollen germination and pollen tube growth.
Sprays on pistils, however, induced a negative effect on pollen germination and pollen tube growth showing that caution must be taken at spraying time in order to avoid a significant decrease in fruit set due to a deficient pollination process.
