ISHS Acta Horticulturae 591: III International Symposium on Pistachios and Almonds

THE AMYGDALUS WEBBII SPACH IN APULIA (SOUTHERN ITALY)

Authors:   A. Godini, M. Palasciano, G. Petrelli, R. Mariani, A. Pacifico
Keywords:   Almond, Amygdalus webbii, wild species.
Abstract:
Land explorations allowed several sites of natural diffusion of many hundreds of individuals of Amygdalus webbii Spach. to be singled out in Apulia (Southern Italy). Landscape and floristic composition of the above sites are described. The use of fluorescence microscopy has been applied in order to ascertain the presence of self-fertility in individuals of A. webbii randomly selected from the populations localized. The complete penetration of stylar tissues by their own pollen tubes has been observed in most of the checked individuals.
