Abstract:
Control of plant pathogenic bacteria relies mostly on two types of compounds: heavy metals and antibiotics (Psallidas and Tsiantos, 2000). Both types of compounds act directly on the pathogen usually killing it. Recently, as our knowledge of plant-microbe interactions has increased, new strategies for controlling plant diseases have emerged. In particular, it became clear that plants could defend themselves against most pathogens, including bacteria, and that there were ways to manipulate, to our benefit, some of the processes involved.
