ISOLATION OF ERWINIA AMYLOVORA FROM BLIGHTED PLUMS (PRUNUS DOMESTICA) AND POTATO ROSES (ROSA RUGOSA) |

| Abstract:
Since 1996, in the districts of Dachau and Miesbach in South Germany, trees of Prunus domestica and bushes of Rosa rugosa have shown unusual disease symptoms. In early summer the leaves appear chlorotic and they later die. The necrosis moves down the stem during the growing period. Most of these symptoms were found in close proximity to apple and pear trees affected by fire blight. In 2000, from the district of Miesbach, bacteria were isolated from a Prunus domestica tree and a rose bush (Rosa rugosa) showing symptoms described above as well as from an apple tree showing typical symptoms of fire blight. These strains were labeled MB1, MB2 and MB3 respectively. The goal of this project was to determine if these were strains of the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora or related to E. amylovora. | |
