ISHS Acta Horticulturae 59: IV International Symposium on Virus Diseases of Ornamental Plants

A FURTHER SIMPLIFIED SINGLE IMMUNODIFFUSION DROP TEST FOR THE DETECTION OF LILY SYMPTOMLESS VIRUS IN LILIUM SPECIES

Abstract:
A further simplification of the single immunodiffusion drop test was achieved by replacing agar, incorporated in the pyrrolidine-extraction medium as a coagulant, by the starch derivative "Saroma".

In a single experiment, the minimum amount of lily symptomless virus detectable with the single immunodiffusion drop test was about one eighth of that which could be detected when the 'Ouchterlony' double diffusion test was used.

Lily symptomless virus could not only be detected in pyrrolidine-treated extracts from the leaves but also from the bulbscales of infected lily plants.
