Abstract:
ent-Kaurene synthase (KS) is one of key enzymes in gibberellin biosynthesis.
A full-length cDNA for KS was isolated from cotyledons of young cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seedlings using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). A complete sequence of 2638 nucleotides contained an open reading frame of 2355 nucleotides encoding a polypeptide of 785 amino acids.
The predicted sequence showed 80% and 54% identity with pumpkin and Arabidopsis KS, respectively.
Southern blot analysis suggested that the primary structure and the copy number of the KS genes might be the same in monoecious and gynoecious cucumber lines.
