Abstract: -carotene content in pickling cucumbers EOM 400 and EOM 402 was evaluated 7, 20, and 40 days after pollination.
As originally reported, the cucumbers’ flesh was pigmented and contained -carotene at immature stages; the content was approximately two to three times that of ordinary cucumbers.
The -carotene content changed during development; the pattern of change varied among accessions.
The -carotene content in progeny from a cross of pigmented EOM 402 and non-pigmented Si-ye suggests that -carotene accumulation is a quantative trait.
