Abstract:
A disease of Japanese pear which induces rough bark of shoots and deformation of fruits was found in the Okayama Prefecture in Japan.
The symptoms are mainly wavy leaves, rough-surfaces with bark necroses of shoots and deformation of fruits.
The symptoms on the shoots and fruits appeared within 2~3 years of Japanese pear cvs.
Niitaka, Atago and Housui being top-grafted onto affected trees of the pear cv.
Okusankichi.
It appeared within 3~6 years on Okusankichi and Kousui which were worked onto pear rootstocks by a double grafting method.
It became clear that the disease is graft-transmissible.
These results show that the disease of Japanese pear cv.
Okusankichi in Okayama Pref. is the “sohi-byo” disease previously reported.
