ISHS Acta Horticulturae 587: International Symposium on Asian Pears, Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Nijisseiki Pear

CHANGES OF CA AND CAM CONTENT DURING FRUIT DEVELOPMENT IN PEAR (PYRUS PYRIFOLIA NAKAI)

Authors:   S.A. Peng, G.H. Li, C. Luo
Keywords:   Ca, CaM, pear, fruit development
Abstract:
Changes of Ca and calmodulin (CaM) contents were analyzed in two pear cultivars, ‘Shinseiki’ and ‘Syounan’ that differed markedly in maturity and storage between each other. The results showed that a high content of Ca appeared during young fruit development in both cultivars, but on the whole, Ca content during different stages in ‘Shinseiki’ with early maturity and inferior storage characteristics was much higher than that in ‘Syounan’ that had a better storage characteristic but ripened later. Ca content in ‘Shinseiki’ increased to form a peak during fruit expansion period when CaM content showed the highest value. Content of CaM in ‘Shinseiki’ was maintained relatively low during young fruit development and storage, whereas changes of CaM content in ‘Syounan’ were just on the contrary.
