Abstract:
Pyrus spp. distribute throughout a broad range of area in China.
The present work was aimed to assess genetic diversity and relationship among pear cultivars originated in North China.
Concentration of sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose and sorbitol) varied broadly among the cultivars, ranging from 82.6mg/ml juice to 180.5mg/ml juice.
Ussurian pear (P. ussuriensis) cultivars and Xinjiang pear (P. sinkiangensis) cultivars tend to have smaller fruit weight, and generally had higher content of sugar.
Fructose was primarily accumulated in most of the cultivars at mature stage.
Sugar content was not correlated with fruit fresh weight among the cultivars analyzed in this study.
AFLP analysis indicated that there are several relatively independent pear genetic groups.
The result is in agreement with taxonomic classification of genus Pyrus originated in North China.
Xinjiang pear cultivars obviously cluster together, and exhibited a closer genetic relationship with European pear (P. communis) cultivars.
Ussurian pears with several exceptions tend to cluster together, revealing their independence from others.
There was general relatedness within White pear (P. bretschneideri) cultivars.
