STEM PLACES AND SUPPORTING FRAMES SUITABILITY FOR "DENDROMETERS" INSTALLATION ON OLIVE TREE

Authors:   N. Michelakis, E.A. Barbopoulou
Keywords:   DSRV, DSRG, DSRC, phloem, xylem, structure, frame
Abstract:
To determine the changeable part of the tree stem due to hydration effects, the influence of stem diameter and anatomic structure of the trunk in the place of measurements as well as the suitability of various types of metallic supporting frames in olive tree, relevant experiments were carried out. It was found that the changeable part of the trunk involves the cortical ring outside the xylem. The size of the daily stem radius variations seemed to depend on the phloem thickness, the size of the corresponding canopy and the anatomic structure of the place of measurements. Both the diameter and the screw types of dendrometer supporting frames appeared to be suitable for the daily stem variations measuring.
