Abstract:
Olive cross-breeding studies have been carried out since 1990 at Yalova Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute.
The objective of the study is to obtain new and superior olive cultivars than standard cv.
Gemlik.
First stage of the study mainly 10 native and foreign were used as parents, and hybridisation studies were realized.
Pollen germination percentage, fruit setting rate and F1 seeds germination percentage of the combination were determined at different stage of the study.
Pre-selection procedure was applied to obtained F1 material.
Finally 2028 individuals were taken to observation orchards.
Generally, fruit setting rate and F1 seeds germination percentage of the combination were varied year to year depending on the varieties which were used as male or female.
From morphological point of view F1 plants shows different behaviour which indicating variation between and within the groups.
