ISHS Acta Horticulturae 586: IV International Symposium on Olive Growing

CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS, PATHOGENICITY, AND HOST RANGE OF COLLETOTRICHUM GLOEOSPORIOIDES ISOLATED FROM OLIVE PLANTS IN MONTENEGRO

Authors:   J. Latinovic, Z. Vucinic
Keywords:   Olea europea, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, media, pathogenicity, host range
Abstract:
In the last few years, in olive groves along the Montenegrin sea coast, a severe rotting of olive fruits was observed, from which Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc. (syn.: Gloeosporium olivarum Alm.) was consistently isolated. Following investigations on the morphology and biology of the fungus, further studies were carried out on: the cultural characteristics of the fungus; the effect of different nutrient media and its pH value on colony growth and sporulation; the pathogenicity of the isolates originating from diseased fruits; and the host range of the pathogen, as determined by inoculating of various plant species under laboratory conditions.
