ISHS Acta Horticulturae 585: VIII International Rubus and Ribes Symposium

RASPBERRY BREEDING IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Author:   H. Daubeny
Keywords:   fruit rot, root rot (Phytophthora fragariae var. rubi), Raspberry bushy dwarf virus
Abstract:
Three of the major objectives of present day red raspberry breeding programmes must be the development of new sources of resistance to fruit rot, root rot, and Raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV). The development of more efficient screening procedures to determine reactions to these organisms should be a high priority. To achieve the objectives, programmes must have sustained support and stress long term planning, especially with regard to development of germplasm and to application of biotechnology.
