TELDOR(R) (FENHEXAMID) - A NEW SPECIFIC FUNGICIDE FOR THE CONTROL OF BOTRYTIS CINEREA AND RELATED PATHOGENS ON RUBUS, RIBES AND OTHER CROPS

Authors:   J. Duben, H.-J. Rosslenbroich, G. Jenner
Keywords:   Red raspberry, Rubus idaeus, ecobiology, Drepanopeziza ribis, blackberry, blackcurrant, gooseberry
Abstract:
Fenhexamid, the active ingredient in Teldor®, is a protective specific fungicide that belongs to the newly discovered chemical group of hydroxyanilides. In the US and Japan, it received registration under the tradenames Elevate® and Password®, respectively. As a result of its novel mode of action, fenhexamid shows no cross-resistance with fungicides of other chemical groups. It has excellent long-term activity against Botrytis cinerea on berries and other crops. Teldor® is non-toxic to bees, and other beneficial insects, and is thus ideally suited to fit into IPM programmes. Especially interesting for the grower are its short pre-harvest interval (PHIs), the excellent crop tolerance, long lasting activity and good storage protection of soft fruits. Trials show that it has no negative effect on taste or flavour, nor on processing of the treated fruits. Results are presented from field trials worldwide (UK, USA, Germany and other European countries) on caneberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, red and black currants. Teldor® with 750-1000 g a.i./ ha applied as a programme of treatments from early flower till harvest, demonstrated very good control of B. cinerea in all crops, being at least as effective as the commercial standards. Correspondingly, this was confirmed by yield assessments. In addition, Teldor® in rotation with Euparen M® or Euparen® offers a comprehensive range of spray programmes for the control of B. cinerea and other important fungal diseases on Rubus and Ribes. These spray programmes provide growers with reliable and effective broad-spectrum disease control and, at the same time, an anti-resistance management strategy. Alternatively, the product Talat® , a pre-formulated mixture of fenhexamid and tolylfluanid, can be used. * registered Trademark of TOMEN Agro Inc.
