Abstract:
A trial was conducted at IHD-Toolangi to investigate the efficacy of hilling and gypsum amendment of soils to minimise losses of raspberry plants to Phytophthora root rot.
Several fungicides were tested for their efficacy against Phytophthora. The trial included cultivars ‘Bogong’ and ‘Dinkum’, known to be susceptible to Phytophthora, and cultivar ‘Tulameen’, which is regarded as moderately resistant.
The greatest positive effect was achieved using phosphonate (phosphorous acid) salts to control root rot.
Hilling had a slight positive effect, and gypsum amendment had no effect, on cane height and cane number over three years.
