ISHS Acta Horticulturae 585: VIII International Rubus and Ribes Symposium

INTRODUCTION AND EVALUATION OF RASPBERRY AND BLACKBERRY CULTIVARS FOR EXPANDING BERRY CULTIVATION IN THE MID ADRIATIC AREA

Authors:   B. Mezzetti, F. Capocasa, J. Scalzo
Keywords:   Rubus, varieties, adaptability, yield, quality.
Abstract:
Interest in small fruit growing is increasing due to the improved characteristics available in some new cultivars. These include adaptability to low input management, early and late-autumn production using primocane cultivars, and resistance to pest and disease. In the mid Adriatic area small fruits are seen as meeting the needs of alternative and integrated crop production. The aim of the present research program is the evaluation of new raspberry and blackberry cultivars, either for the productivity and improved fruit quality, and the identification of the best adapted cultivars to these cultivation conditions.
