Abstract:
The Polish raspberry breeding program has placed equal emphasis on the development of floricane and primocane cultivars for more than 20 years.
Recently, two new red primocane cultivars, named 'Polka' and 'Pokusa', have been put in the final testing procedure before release.
A brief characterisation of both cultivars is presented below.
'Polka', tested previously as P 93563, was selected from open pollinated seeds of selection P 89141. Both parents of this selection contain 'Autumn Bliss' in their origin.
It is primocane fruiting, self-supporting and semi vigorous.
Its main advantages are early ripening and high fruit quality for fresh market, freezing and processing.
It also showed good fruit chemical composition and organoleptic characters.
'Pokusa' has 'Heritage', 'Autumn Bliss' and Rubus odoratus in its origin.
It is primocane fruiting, self-supporting and vigorous.
It was selected mainly for high quality of dessert fruits, which are big and well shaped. 'Pokusa' seems to be especially suitable for fresh market production under plastic tunnels.
