Abstract:
The Horticultural Crops Group in FAO is a part of the Department of Agricul-ture
and the Plant Production and Protection Division.
It is one of the four crop ori-ented
groups within the Crop and Grassland Service.
The other three groups respec-tively
deal with pasture and fodder crops; cereal and legume crops; industrial crops.
The horticultural crops group covers fruits, vegetables, roots and tubers, ornamentals
as well as mushroom and condiments.
This paper elaborates on the overall framework
of the horticultural crops group programme and more specifically on regional work-ing
groups or networks as means to promote inter-country cooperation.
It analyses the
case of RADHORT, which is the African network for horticulture development.
